By recording how the Lord speaks through His Word in the midst of specific circumstances, a Christian acquires a permanent record of God's faithfulness. Here's how the person you're discipling can begin a "portfolio of promises."
Divide a notebook into five sections and title them power, person, promises, presence, and purposes. As you learn about God's character and ways from your Bible reading, record insights in the appropriate section.
Power. When faced with situations that seem impossible, we need reminders of God's sufficient and sustaining power. This section is for recording how God reveals His power both in Scripture and in the events of your life. The fruit will be an ability to face the future with less fear.
Person. As we meet Christ in the pages of the Word, we form a cumulative knowledge of His nature. By recording insights and revelations about the Savior, you will develop a testimony of a growing, intimate relationship.
Promises. What benefits does God offer to those who live for Him? A record of His promises can keep you motivated and focused.
Presence.Sometimes God's presence seems elusive. Keep a record of how God reveals Himself to you. This can sustain your faith when God seems temporarily distant.
Purposes.God's plans often differ from the messages that bombard us daily. Recording God's revealed purposes for living can help you stay on the path God has prepared for you.
