Senior Q & A

Help your small group catch a glimpse of life for senior citizens today.

Purpose: To gain perspective about what it is like to live as a senior in today's world.

Activity: If there is anyone in your group who could purchase coffee at a senior discount, see if they would allow the group to interview them during the discussion time. If that wouldn't be a good idea, or if no one in your group qualifies, ask your pastor for some good candidates to talk with.

The following interview questions can help steer the conversation, but the main idea is to get a sense of what it's like to live as a senior in today's world.

Sample questions:

  • Start with background information: Name, family, hobbies, etc.
  • What are some of the more memorable events in history that you've witnessed in your lifetime?
  • If you could change one important decision from your past, what would it be?
  • What is an element of our current culture that makes you sad?
  • What are some sources of joy in your life right now?
  • What are some sources of struggle?

Possible follow-up questions:

  • What have you done to fight aging? Why do we feel the need to maintain the appearance of youth?
  • Name an elderly person you admire. Why?
  • What advantages are there to growing older? Name as many things as you can think of.
