Dress Up

Connecting clothing to putting on the new self

Ask group members to come dressed in their favorite outfit. Give each person a chance to share why it's his or her favorite outfit and what it communicates to others. Alternatively, ask group members to bring a picture of themselves wearing a favorite outfit—past or present.

Read Colossians 3:9-11. Then discuss these questions:

  • What does it mean to "put on the new self"? How is it like putting on clothes each day?
  • Paul makes a point to say we have "taken off" our old selves. Why do you think this important?
  • What should putting on our new selves communicate to others?
