At the beginning of each meeting we put the names of all participants (guests included) on a hat and have everyone drawing from it. Then each one makes a prayer request which will be prayed by the person who selected from the drawing. Each person is suppose to pray for the other person everyday and also make at least one phone call during the week to see how things are going. That has been very effective to keep the group connected between meetings, being also a great ice breaker for guests.
We use email a few times a week to stay connected with each other. It is dependent on each person having regular access to email, which can be a draw back if some don't have. As leaders, in the early stages of cell group beginnings, we invite two couples or a few individuals and a couple or two for dinner to keep mixing up the connections and generating relationships among new folks who don't know each other well initially. We always send one follow-up email in the middle of the week to each person encouraging them to think about and continue applying what was discussed in the previous week's meeting. We try to have potlucks every month or so before our meetings to keep folks connected and interested in each others' lives at other times.
