How do we balance worship, edification, evangelism, and discipleship in our small group? Is it necessary to give equal time to each piece?

We use a weekly process called the 10 Steps for Groups, originally developed by Baylife Church in Brandon, FL. The first three are more procedures than agenda: Set up room appropriately (no pets, well-lighted, etc); Welcome people at door and have name tags; Start/End on time. The other seven form a sort of agenda that covers the purposes: Ice Breaker, practical Bible study, Worship (use a worship DVD, favorite song from a CD, read through a Psalm, etc.), Empty Chair prayer, Prayer/Testimony time, Delegation, Fellowship. The order can vary some. Each week most of the "steps" are delegated by asking for volunteers for the next week: "Who will bring the snack?" "Who will do the ice breaker?" "Who will do worship?" etc. Works great! As we joke, if you can count to 7 silently, you can delegate. We take the last 3-5 minutes for the delegation before we get up to snack and fellowship at the end. One delegated task is the "reminder caller" who phones a reminder 24 hours before.
To run a small groups it's very important to consider time management. People in that particular group have a tendency to be time conscious. If there is no order or flow of the activities expected in worship, edification, discipleship & fellowship, the ultimate purpose of the small group will not be met.
