Can small groups genuinely grow closer together by interacting over the Internet?

Just a simple idea would be a something like a facebook group, but even if not everyone had a facebook you could create a blog, and then leave comments for people to post prayer request. Then taking it a step further to make it more genuine, have people pray over them and the post responses to them. words of encouragement and words that people felt are given to them form the Lord for that person. What this offers is a chance for people throughout the week to keep up with each other and lift each other up through prayer. It also gets what is going on in others lives out there so that they can know when someone needs help. Then at the actual small group you can just continue to grow and hear the praises of how God has worked through the requests that week.
