It's August, and Darryl is scheduled to lead his first small-group meeting ever on the first Tuesday of September. He is excited about the opportunity, but he also feels unprepared. He wants some training on what it takes to lead well.

Darryl is familiar with the world of small groups—he has participated in three groups over the past five years. He has led a few discussions, recruited a couple group members, and even managed a short-term missions trip during his second group. But Darryl has never been officially tagged as a "leader."

Fortunately, Darryl doesn't have to recruit any group members (at least not right away). He has been assigned to lead a group of newcomers to his church—mostly younger adults. None of them have children, and there is a mix between couples and singles.

As a self-started, Darryl feels comfortable doing some research on his own in order to prepare himself. He likes reading books and he is capable online. But he doesn't really know where to start. What skills will he need? What obstacles will present the biggest challenges to him? Where can he go to find help?

In short, what should Darryl do?
